AlphaBounce DSi
The recent release of AlphaBounce for DSiware has kept my DSi humming, distracting me from full price titles and keeping me engaged longer than any other dsiware release has. There's just so much to do and keep track of!
I started taking some notes with a little help from a digital camera and some slightly wonky OCR. The result below is a very abbreviated Encyclopedia AlphaBouncia (DSi). All the power-ups are here and I'll keep adding descriptions as I capture them.
Power-Ups
The power-up's colors are my own approximation using html color names. They're close enough, but I'll probably tweak them in the future. I've put my own notes in "italics".
A - Attraction
B - Barrier
C - Chaos Field
D - Diminish
E - Extension
F - Frenzy
The balls are duplicated until the maximum of balls the ship can control is reached.
G - Gelato
H - Halo
I - Indigestion
A chain chemical reaction is triggered within the structure of the conglomerates and produces an excess of substance which is turned into conglomerates.
J - Javelin
K - Kamikazi
L - Lacerations
M - Multiball
The balls are instantly duplicated.
N - Nebula
An impressive gravitational field appears in the center of the area, slowly attracting the balls towards its epicentre before collapsing.
O - Open
P - Pilot
Plus several others as you progress.
Q - Quasar
A massive black hole is formed and absorbs most of the conglomerates of the area, then implodes.
R - Regeneration
S - Sapper
T - Terraforming
U - Ultraviolet
V - Vendetta
An ancient ESCorp drilling machine awakens.
W - Whiskey
X - Xenox
Y - Yoga
Damaged by mechanical failure, the anti-gravity systems of the ship can no longer hold the ship still in space.
Z - Zealot
The propulsion systems of the balls start overheating. The balls go faster though they get harder to control.
The Extremely Abridged Encyclopedia AlphaBouncia
Below I have included a taste of the objects and places in the game. There's just so many!
Planets
Gorgonat:
Considered as a sacred land by many primitive civilisations, Gorgonat would be, according to the legends, the lair of mythical creatures, who could cause death and despair with a simple glance.
Soldemas:
Unique human colony of the Dumerian System, Soldemas is a rocky planet rich in liquid water and carbon. Once considered as a paradise, it has been polluted and wasted over the years by the super massive industry. The surroundings of the planet are filled with toxic wastes and wrecks in orbit, which causes over 15,000 deaths per year (mostly collisions).
Tartinours:
Unique in the universe. Tartinours isn't spherical, but is nut-shaped. All the settlement projects carried by the ESCorp were cancelled, because of the high nutmetric density (official unit describing the amount of orbital nut falls per square meter).
Vanister:
Vanister is the furthest planet of the Dumerian System, and also the heaviest one. Its iron concentration is so high that one can find clouds of iron gas in the atmosphere. Moreover, it's impossible to listen to any kind of music on that planet.
Ships
AB-MIN_500:
Abandoned for years right between two superplanets, this ship was horizontally stretched by the two opposite gravitational forces of the two planets.
ARTEMIS:
ARTEMIS is surrounded by a very unstable electric firld, which reacts violently if it collides with another object. The electric arcs generated by these reactions can come in handy for mining ops.
GROMENS:
Designed to be used for longer operations, GROMENS has a lot of equipment slots. However, this extra loadout makes it a bit slower than other ships.
Enemies
Guardian:
Nexus Guardians are dangerous enemies, not very agile but incredibly tough. The ESCorp offers a nice reward to the one who will bring them a Guardian pilot alive so it can be studied.
Meshyn Sentry:
Meshyn Sentries are equipped with electromagnetic pulses, which can, during a short amount of time, shut down all the electronic systems of a ship.
Molecule:
Result of a failed experience carried by Dadoux Labs, these giant Molecules, according to the rumors, carry a terrible disease within their organism. Luckily, it's still passive. Some people claim this disease would exterminate every single form of life if it was to be activated.
Power Generator:
Power Generator of a Nexus. It's the central point of these alien networks.
VIRUS:
Paramecia which evolved to a superior stage. Not only they're bigger but they're also smarter, and more annoying.
Conglomerates
Block:
When conglomerates undergo a high pressure over an extended amount of time, they tend to create strong physical links between them, turning a group of conglomerates into a single block, extremely hard to scatter. However, if hit correctly, these structures can be torn apart in a single shot.
Nitrogen Conglomerate:
A ball can easily dissipate these clouds of semi-solid nitrogen, though they will always slowly reform after the ball passed through.
Iron Conglomerate:
Made of pure iron, these metallic conglomerates can resist most balls.
Tools
Acid Ball:
Developed by GourouX Labs and the ESCorp, the Acid Ball is coated with a powerful chemical agent, which instantly kills any living molecula it touches.
Composition Scanner:
The Composition Scanner provides topographic and thermal maps of an area.
Scout Ball:
After the third interstellar war, the ESCorp started sending prisoners into new unexplored areas of the universe. In order to make it easier for them, they created the Scout Ball. Loaded with a high-tech AI, the ball automatically seeks and retreives all the valuable gear which can be found in the conglomerates.
Miscellaneous
Orbital Nut:
Noone knows where the orbital nuts come from. A lot of different theories were proposed but none was ever proved. The orbital nut rainfalls are anyway the cause of many accidents, especially in the Tartinours sector.
Quasmik:
Overcrowded by BUM-P Sentries, Quasmik was, according to the ancient scriptures, part of an intergalactic flipper the Gods were playing with.
Warper Out:
Teleport device set up byESCorp scouts so the miners can access strategic parts of a zone with a ball.
