Bastion is My Game of the Year!
I was right. I love Skyrim, and Kirby, and Sword & Sworcery, and Tiny Wings, and even appreciated returning to Inside a Star-Filled Sky, but when I sat down the other day to close the book on my 2011 journal, it was Bastion I thought about the most.
Thank you Supergiant Games. I can’t wait to see what you do next!

Bastion is not My GOTY
I thought it might be. Definitely in the top five with Okamiden, Ilomilo and Portal 2. But then there came the Dovahkiin…

Bastion Just Might Be My GOTY
I originally wrote this for GoodGame Get!, but really liked how it turned out so I’m sharing it here as well. If you haven’t played this game, you should. GOTY contender, and now on PC!
There are just too many games. It’s one of those good/bad things about the industry. Now that indie developers are creating masterpieces, how can we ever play them all? Writing about my...

It's Official! Fourth Layton Includes "London...
Just shared the following over at GoodGameGet!:
Nintendo dropped a few bits of North American news over the weekend, including an October 17th release date for Professor Layton and the Last Specter (and something about a gold wiimote). But the big news in the press release was the announcement that the 100 hour Layton RPG “London Life” from Mother 3 creator Brownie Brown will be included. Yay!...

On Bastion, and X-Play's "Lame" Review →
Just posted some thoughts about video game narrative over at GGG! I guess I’m feeling a little extra protective of Bastion because I have enjoyed it so much, but I stand by my assertion that the story is very good, and worth exerting a little effort to understand.
via goodgameget:
But X-play’s review got me thinking: Are we, as gamers, untrained at parsing narrative alongside gameplay? Is...

I'm So Doing This
I love Zelda games. They represent what’s best about video games, and even though not always perfect I think it’s fair to say there’s no such thing as a bad Zelda game. My favorite is an unusual pick, but I stand by it with resolution. ”The Minish Cap”, to me, is everything that’s great about classic Zelda, packaged in a short and sweet adventure. I dig...

My Takeaway from the E3 Press Events
So I just finished watching the Nintendo E3 press conference and, now having seen all the big press events, find myself a little unimpressed. Despite the big announcements, only a few things caught my attention. I’m just not a Gears of War/Assassin’s Creed-type of gamer, so there wasn’t a lot for me, but a few things caught my eye…
Love, love, love that Nintendo began...

Glitch, My New Second Home
Late Sunday afternoon the voice of God rained down upon my head and the world around me ended. Sunday, not Saturday. This is not a rapture thing. I’m not talking about the God, just a God. And the world that ended is called Glitch. I’ve never been much for online multiplayer and haven’t spent any real time with an MMO, but I remember spotting Glitch about a year ago and...

Funniest Joke in the World
Something I found in the Wayback Machine…
The Funniest Joke in the World:
Two hunters are out in the woods when one of them collapses. He doesn’t seem to be breathing and his eyes are glazed. The other guy whips out his phone and calls the emergency services. He gasps, “My friend is dead! What can I do?”. The operator says “Calm down. I can help. First, let’s...

DS Dates (from Tiny Cartridge) →
Nintendo may be moving on to the 3DS, but I predict the the DS system will remain relevant for quite a while. Not unlike the PS2 after the PS3’s release. (link via GoodGameGet!)

Above is a wonderful short video assembled by NCDD2010 NorCal participant Edwin Rutsch of the Center for Building a Culture of Empathy highlighting our San Francisco Bay event, one of five events happening across the country this Fall. These events are keeping me really busy, but its great to see the successful outcome of this work.

Pennsylvania was the first colony to legalize... →
Reblogged from ohyeahfacts. Some of those witches who fought so hard for recognition back then still live in my town. They sure know their arcane arts. I mean, that’s a long time to stick around. That was like in the 70’s and stuff. BTW, Happy October!

Robot (Now) Wants Ice Cream →
My latest post is up at GGG!, this one on the Robot Wants… series. I’ve been trying to complete all the badge challenges for these games, but not being the best at platform games I’m struggling with the hard ones. I love this series though and especially love the weapon in the second game.
