Its Summer 2009…

…and that means a new 13p theme!

The Story of a Squirrel

So I’ve added the new title photo, replacing the happy, smiley balloon with a slightly perturbed squirrel.  Not the most wild of critters, I know.  But perhaps the most numerous on the trails I’ve been hiking over the past few weeks.  This squirrel, though, is a special squirrel, or at least notable for its association with one of NCDD’s conferences. In 2004, NCDD had the pleasure of being guests of Regis University.  This is a Regis squirrel and he spent the weekend keeping an eye on us from his favorite patch of green space.  He was easily recognizable because of a square-shaped hole in his right ear and after spotting him several times I just had to get a photo of him.  Five years later, he’s this summer’s mascot.

So Where Am I Walking To?

This summer’s theme is inspired by a little project of mine that I will be writing about in length over the next few months.  Due to the demands of my health, I have started walking nearly daily (today’s constant rain is keeping me inside, but on most days I find myself at a local park).  In the past, my exercise of choice was my mountain bike, but I’ll need to be a little stronger before I can start riding again.  I can walk and I’ve started exploring the local parks, both wilderness and municipal, and I plan to collect information about these parks and share it online.  One great thing about Pennsylvania is its parks.  Every corner of the state is just dotted with them, and they’re freely open to everyone.

I’d Love To Hear About Your Walks

Are you a walker, too?  I’d love to here about it.  You can email me or leave a message using the link at the top of the page.
