About this Humblr Tumblr

I have tried many web tools, written a few custom scripts and have run nearly a dozen different websites over the years, but I’ve never really found the rhythm or discipline to maintain a personal site for any real length of time. For me, at least, managing a professional site is a lot easier. I suppose I’ve never had the same sense of purpose, or perhaps, enough meaningful content, to keep a personal site running.

But still, one positive thing about my personal sites has been the “sandbox” they have provided to test scripts and online tools and the many experiments I have tried which. most of the time, never worked, but were fun to play with.

In 2007, I got really interested in the simple “micro-blogging” tools that have become so popular.  I am (as of Spring/Summer 2008) working on our 4th national conference, and I’m hoping to encourage our participants to share experiences before, during and after the conference using one of these simple tools — whether it be Twitter, Pownce or Tumblr, etc.  The more artistic participants may even follow a different path and use any one of the photo, audio or video sharing sites to document the event and its impact on their work.  So I’ve been taking time learning about these tools and that has led me to use Tumblr as a place to share those modest items which I always enjoyed including on past sites without feeling like I am committed to some great endeavor.
