NCDD is Still “A-Twitter”, but…

NCDD News

So the month-long NCDD Twitter experiment has ended and I find my reaction to Twitter as a tool for non-profits rather mixed.  Twitter is an excellent tool for breaking news.  However, “news” tweets of a more general nature tend to get lost or ignored in the constant stream of incoming messages, and I find are regarded by some as very “un-Twitterish” and even spam-like.

Since there are more convenient ways to receive news, I don’t see a need to continue with a dedicated Twitter stream for NCDD news.  (Especially since its quite easy to have the news you want come directly to your inbox — which is how several hundred people receive NCDD’s news already.)

I have seen some advantage to sharing dialogue and deliberation news via Twitter and would like to continue with the more personal items or announcements of events that are about to take place, so…

The Future of NCDD News and Twitter

I have decided to keep sharing NCDD news via my personal stream, @andyfluke.

I encourage everyone now following @ncdd to follow this one instead.  This way I don’t need to keep up with two different tasks and I can focus on sharing the more Twitter-appropriate NCDD news in a more personal way, which is really what Twitter is all about.

Also, I found myself thinking about Twitter more than I found myself using it, which defeated the purpose, so I hope I can leverage this tool in a more effective way now that I can focus on the stream as a tool for sharing.

Thanks to everyone who followed @ncdd, especially everyone who sent me feedback on what I was exploring!  I hope you find @andyfluke as informative, and maybe even a little entertaining.
